Hi everybody, hope you're having a great summer.
I realized the other day that it's been almost a year since I left Hawaii on my quest to become the next endometriosis specialist. I've truly learned a lot, more than I could ever put into words, and I've been lucky to have a phenomenal teacher in Dr. Redwine. He's taught me surgical techniques, anatomy, clinical diagnostic pearls, persistence, and the ever important quality of trusting your gut. Working with David has made me realize what a great man he is - he's not just an excellent technical surgeon, but he has that thing that's hard to quantify that makes someone special - the ability to relate to people where they are, to understand their situation, and be able to reach out and help them transform their lives. I am humbled every day, and at the same time I strive to be worthy to follow in his footsteps. I'm growing in my surgical abilities - what once was moderately difficult is now easy, and what seemed nearly impossible when I got here is challenging, but doable. You all know that I've been moved by your stories of frustration over multiple failed surgeries, and that knowing what you've been through both before and after trips to Bend continues to motivate me to "fight the good fight", enlightening the medical community and patients alike about the benefits of surgical excision, the shortcomings of Lupron, and the need to realize that endometriosis can be cured. Last week we read an article by a bunch of PhD microbiologists on the genetics of experimental endometriosis induced in rats ( who don't naturally get endo) and in multiple places in the article they said endometriosis was incurable. I'm realizing that it's now my job to publicly correct these old outdated incorrect opinions thrown around as facts.
So, hang in there, and remember I'm here for you. Any questions you want answered let me know and I'll do my best.

Thank you for being so committed to this population Dr. Mos. It seems 99% of the time I feel so isolated and misunderstood by the general medical professionals I have available to me.
Dr. Redwine reviewed my records a couple months back and the whole time I have been fighting my HMO in a lengthly and pointless appeals process to come to Bend (I am not financially in a place to be able to pay out of pocket without coverage).
I also applied for individual coverage with a PPO and got denied yesterday as they saw my Endo as too much of a risk. They said I oculd be re-evaluated for coverage if I am symtom free of Endo for at least six months. It's as if they bypassed the fact that Endo is a chronic, painful disease!
I am feeling at such a loss and it seems daily now my pain increases! I feel like you and Dr. Redwine are my only hope of a pain free, normal life and the dream is so far off!
I simply don't understand why these insurance companies make it impossible to get appropriate and adequate health care...
Any advice to get me through is appreciated.
Thank you so much for your dedication!

You talk a good talk and I'm sure you're a great surgeon but WHY DON'T YOU AND DR. REDWINE WORK WITH INSURANCE COMPANIES SO THAT MORE WOMEN CAN HAVE ACCESS TO THE GOOD TREATMENT THAT YOU CAN PROVIDE??
My 24 year old daughter suffers tremendously and is insured by a pretty good plan, but your office wants all the money up front so it's impossible for her to see you.
I doubt you'll post this on the blog but I really wish you would address it because this issue affects many patients who want to go to your office.
Thank you.
Dr this has nothing to do with your practice but you sure sound like the Doctor I would like to see if need be. I'm tracing the Mosbrucker family and I was wondering just what branch your from or if your just married to a Mosbrucker. My Grandparents were Raphael Mosbrucker at Bowman, ND.
Cord,
I'm pretty sure I descended from Raphael Mosbrucker from ND. He was either my granddad or great-granddad. My dad was born in Rosebud, outside either Bismarck or Mandan. So I guess we're cousins.

Happy Anniversary, or, as some of us have said, Happy Excisversary!
By the way, my latest blog of 8/8/07 addresses the issues with insurance companies. Please leave your questions at the end of that posting.
Thanks,
cm
